Rotation speed

Welcome to our stellar neighborhood! This visualization shows all stars (not including brown dwarves) within 12 light years of our sun. While the stars don't actually rotate around our sun, for the sake of visualizing depth and distance, in this visualization they do.

The colors roughly correspond to the type of each star. Red stars are red dwarves, too dim to be seen without the aid of binoculars or telescopes. Orange stars are orange dwarves, smaller than our sun but bigger than the red dwarves. Yellow stars are stars like our sun, main sequence G-type. And the cyan stars are bigger and brighter than our sun; there are only two such within 12 light years: Sirius and Procyon.
